For me, inner peace isn’t about avoiding challenges or seeking a stress-free life. It’s the ability to connect to a sense of safety and grounded-ness within myself, regardless of what’s happening externally. True inner peace is about feeling steady and centred, even when life is throwing curveballs. It’s the kind of resilience that comes from knowing I can handle whatever comes my way.
The Mindset Shift that Made the Difference
What truly transformed my life was this simple, yet profound mindset shift: I question absolutely everything.
I call it my "Captain Curious" mode. Instead of automatically accepting the beliefs or opinions that come my way—from friends, family, the media, or even my own coaches—I’ve trained myself to listen, get curious, and question everything. Only after evaluating the information do I decide if it truly aligns with me.
This doesn’t mean I shut out guidance or stop learning from others. It simply means I no longer let anyone else dictate what I should believe or where I should invest my energy. I take ownership of my mind and my reactions.
Why This Mindset Shift Matters
By cultivating curiosity and discernment, you can dramatically change the way you navigate life:
You are no longer easily manipulated – When you understand the power of questioning, you’re less likely to be swayed by others’ opinions or the latest trends.
You are no longer easily triggered – Curiosity creates a buffer that allows you to observe your emotional reactions without being at their mercy.
You are no longer over-reactive – With this mindset, you gain control over your responses, moving from a place of intention rather than reactivity.
The Upside? More Joy, Less Anxiety
With this practice, I discovered something unexpected: I had created more room in my life for joy, love, pleasure, and playfulness. By becoming selective about the energy I allowed in, I found a greater capacity for positive emotions. Stress, anxiety, and fear still show up (life isn’t perfect), but I get to decide how deeply they affect me.
It’s about choice. Rather than being at the whim of external events or emotions, I collect the facts, understand the full story, and then choose how to feel about it and how to respond.
An Extremely Trained Mindset: How My Pre-Frontal Cortex Got Stronger
This shift has made me resilient, emotionally flexible, and self-assured. I can imagine my 20-year-old self being stunned at the way I handle life now! Training myself to question, evaluate, and choose my beliefs has profoundly strengthened my mind, especially my pre-frontal cortex (the part responsible for judgment, decision-making, and impulse control).
Give It a Try
If you’re tired of being easily triggered or feeling overwhelmed by life, try cultivating curiosity. Question everything, and choose only what resonates deeply with you. This practice is life-changing—just take it from me, Captain Curious! 🦸♀️✨
